History
The Morello Austera sour cherries cover 11 hectares of Cantian land.
The black cherry (sour cherry) is a tree that comes from Eastern Europe and the Middle East, in particular from Armenia and the Caucasus.
It is said that it was imported into Italy by the Roman military tribune Lucio Licino Lucullus who, on his return after the third Mithridatic in 65 BC. He picked a plant and transplanted it in the gardens of his villa in Rome. Its diffusion in the Cantiano countryside was a successful consequence.
Since the 1800s, numerous documents verify the success of the Cantiano Amarenes: participation in the international exhibition in Paris, purchase documents of the Savoy, the cross of merit at the international exhibition in Milan. -
